Dental Extraction Services
There are a number of reasons to have your dentist extract a tooth. Your dentist may recommend tooth extraction as part of advanced periodontal disease treatment or severe tooth decay treatment. In addition, impacted, damaged, malpositioned, or abscessed teeth also may require extraction. The dentists at Signature Smiles are well-equipped and knowledgeable about providing high-quality dental extraction services as painlessly as possible.
Tooth Extraction Procedures
Regardless of the cause for removal, tooth extraction procedures don’t vary too much. Your dentist or oral surgeon will give you a local anesthetic, numbing the area around the tooth that is to be removed, if you are only having one tooth removed or if the tooth is not too deeply rooted. Otherwise, they may put you under general anesthesia. The next step depends on the condition of the tooth or teeth being removed. If the tooth is visible and not too deeply rooted in the jaw, a simple extraction will suffice. A simple extraction occurs when the dentist loosens the tooth and removes it with forceps. If the tooth is not visible, has not erupted, or has broken off at the gumline, a surgical dental extraction may be necessary. During a surgical extraction, your dentist or oral surgeon will make a small incision in the gums and remove the tooth.
